Hello Patriots from the Board Room of Brighton Area Schools (BAS)!!
Well, school board season is back in full swing now as BAS and school boards across the state have now seated and sworn in their new school board members. BAS was no stranger to new faces, much like other boards here in Michigan and nationally. Patriot and Grassroots candidates did see success, despite the absence of coverage by mainstream media outlets, including Fox. We did good work these past two years, and it paid off. We should be proud.
Here locally, Andy Storm and Jennifer Marks were the newcomers to the BAS Board. Both were supported and endorsed by the Livingston County Republican Party (LCRP). They were joined by re-elected Progressive liberal Dr. Angela Krebs, who voted four times (maybe five) to put a mask on your 2-year-old children.
As the first order of business for the new Board of Education in a new year, an executive board had to be elected. This election took place between the seven members. Dr. Krebs nominated Roger Myers, who has been BOE President for several years now. John Conely nominated long time BOE Trustee, Bill Trombley. Based on our math here at the Lantern, this BOE should be 5-2 in favor of Conservatives or folks who tell you they are Conservatives. If you do not count Myers in that tally (which we surely do not), Conservatives should still hold a 4-3 advantage (Storm, Conely, Trombley & Marks).
All of the votes were there to place Mr. Trombley firmly into the office of President to control the agenda that this BOE would operate off of and from in 2023, being that he is a staunch Conservative who has fought for both children AND parents’ rights through the disastrous COVID measures and policies,. The other option was Mr. Myers: The man who tried to have parents arrested, limited public comment now to a single instance per meeting, ignores parent questions and concerns, dissolved committees amid an open meeting act violation lawsuit, and who has a general distaste for parents wanting to understand the education system and how it impacts their children. The old guard. The leadership that brought the divide to BAS. All of the votes were (or should have been) in place to see new leadership lead this Conservative Majority Board in 2023.
Enter Mrs. Jennifer Marks.
Marks, a well-known and self-professed Conservative member of the community, as well as a prominent member of the Strategic Plan Committee, seemed to have different ideas. After running on Parent Choice & Involvement, collaboration between District and Community, and a new path forward, Mrs. Marks decided not to uphold her campaign promise for transparency as a new member of the board. Instead of casting a vote for her conservative counterparts, her vote (and her vote alone), placed Myers back in control of the BOE in Brighton for 2023. The old path, the nexus of divisiveness, the anti-parent champion; this is the negative track record Myers created, which speaks for itself. To say that the Lantern was shocked by this vote, and what it meant for this Community, may be the understatement of the Century.
Mrs. Marks has some explaining to do. The Lantern will be reaching out with a request for statement and quote on this vote cast. We encourage our readers to do the same: Marksj@brightonk12.com. It has been rumored that a close friend of Mrs. Marks is also very close with the Myers Family. Are we playing friends and politics or are we doing what is best for the Community and the District? We intend to find out.
Mrs. Marks is the sole reason why the entire Executive Board of BAS is not in the hands of legitimate Conservatives. Why do we use the word “legitimate” you ask? Why, that is because not only did Mr. Myers go on to nominate Mrs. Krebs for Vice-President, but he also voted for her for Secretary & Treasurer against nominated (and eventually seated) Conservatives. Voting against Mrs. Marks for Secretary as well, a position that she was able to secure after Mr. Trombley provided the vote for her that she was apparently unable (or unwilling) to cast for him. Que the music, “Things That Make You Go Hmmmmmm” here…..we do miss C & C Music Factory here at the Lantern.
So, the self-professed “Conservative”, Roger Myers, nominated and voted for a Progressive liberal for every executive board seat open and voted against the vary member for Secretary that made him the 2023 President…….right. Got it. The Lantern knows exactly what and who Mr. Myers is. We intend to find out and report back exactly who and what Mrs. Marks is. This was a big vote. Mrs. Marks made the wrong choice, and not the choice she was sent to office to make. Accountability matters and the public will not make the same mistake with the new members that it made with the old.
You wanted the job Mrs. Marks, and you got it……and we are watching.
