By: "Crazy Nutjob Parents Who Told You So"
This evening at a regular Brighton Area Schools board meeting, Mr. Conley brought to the table his intriguing story of how he has been battling, behind the scenes, School Administration and Superintendent Outlaw to remove an office/ classroom in the Brighton High School held in hock by the local Teachers Union, The BEA. The BEA is the local district Teachers Union connected to the larger statewide MEA. No one in the High School building or administration has the keys, the Union' boss' and other Union employees who work there carry BAS lanyard key tags giving them unfettered access to the school. Conely stated according to school records these people are not even credentialed with background checks.
Come again?
This is extra.
Dangerous.
Disgusting.
Deceptive.
Extra confusing is why the Superintendent couldn't seem to keep himself in his seat when Conely began the statement that he was sharing his story. Outlaw quickly looked to Alicia Reid, a lawyer, but not licensed in Michigan, and of course Myers, to give legal opinion to Conely before he began. Superintendent really didn't want this cat out of the bag.

Fast forward to the 1 hour, 7 minute mark to hear Mr. Conely convey his experience.
Conley goes on to detail how he has pressured School administration as well as the Superintendent to remove the non-rent paying teachers union from school facilities. They've had heat, phones internet, whatever they need at their access. Further, Mr. Conley states that when him and another board member knocked on the union door to take back control of the classroom the union representative slammed the door on him and reported that the Superintendent allowed it. Most disturbing to us parents is the fact that we have people in the school who are not background checked but parents are required to be background checked. Most alarming is that the district does not have control of the room the union occupies, how does the Superintendent not see the danger in security risk here ?
As Conley wraps up his story, the remainder of the board members sat stoicly and said nothing. Awkward! Newly elected Jennifer Marks waited for Conely to finish. She is seen accepting a note from Myers that he pushed towards her, Marks then reads that she is moving the Board to closed session.
But are we surprised?
We won't be asking Superintendent Outlaw for a quote but rather expect action on his part to be forthcoming. We firmly believe that Matt will do the right thing and follow the law.
All credit in truth and transparency is due to the Champion for the Children of Brighton - John Conely. It is always so hard for us at the Lantern to understand why doing the right thing is so difficult for some people. John lays it all out on the line for what is right time and time again and we are here for it. We applaud him and we thank him!
