Just Another Day In Clown World...

Just another day in clown world...

Recently a small local group, Brighton Community Cares, a non partisan, un-official parent group of the Brighton Area Schools Community, started a signature page after receiving interest of support for BAS Treasurer, John Conely's nomination to 2023 LACASA Champion for Children award.

As it clearly states in the first sentence of the goggle document:

"Brighton Community Cares is excited to nominate Mr. John Conely of Brighton Area Schools (BAS) Board of Education for the 2023 LACASA Champion for Children Nomination"

So we reached out to the group through the link for comment.  Here are the details:

LL: What prompted the creation of the signature document?

BCC: We recieved quite a few messages of interest for this nomination so we thought it would be a good idea to have a simple signature document so as not to flood LACASA's nomination board. We would submit the signatures and google doc forms with our formal nomination.  We believe we indicated as much in our write up.

LL: So this was created to get supporting signers one place to go instead of many individual submissions?

BCC: Yes. It was intended for those interested in supporting the nomination across Livingston County.

LL: When did you realize this had become local news?

BCC: Early this morning we checked the document and realized there were some consecutive "No's" and then when we saw the names, they were the same people that are usually in opposition to Mr. Conely.  Then you from the Lantern, reached out for comment.

LL: Was this meant as a "poll" for nominating Mr. Conely?

BCC: Poll?  No. This wasn't intended for anyone to necessarily "oppose" or vote like a poll.  It clearly asks for supporters of the nomination, not detractors. Again, we wish people would read what we wrote.  We understood the nomination process and were simply looking to supplement the final submission.  It was just something that was meant to support a man that really does a lot for our children. There are quite a few parents that believe he has done a lot for our schools. They reached out to see what we thought.  This was a way for them to show him they appreciate him. Nothing more. We don't understand how it turned in to this.

We understand and respect that there are poeple that do not agree with Mr. Conely.  We would think those people would find a nominee of their own.  We believe this is how the nomination process is intened to work.  We still believe in an America where we can share a different opinoin without trying to completly distort and destroy the person whose opinion might not agree with your own.  Don't you?

LL: Absolutely.  We at the Lantern 100% unequivocally support 1st Amendment rights.

Is there anything you'd like to add for a quote?

BCC: Yes, we would like to apologize to LACASA for pasting their logo into the form we created and was misconstrued by some people to mean.  We were not trying insinuate this was an endorsement on behalf of LACASA in any way or form of Mr. Conely.  We tried to be very clear in our narritive what the goal was with the form.  We were only trying to use uniformity so it wouldn't be miss-associated from the nomination itself. Once we were made aware that LACASA asked for the logo to be removed, we did so immediatley.

We would also like to note that we did also post the link to the press release so people had the information right under our opening statement. It is all very clear.

We hope those involved in making this news worthy would reach out to the document creator for clarity before assuming the worst. There is an icon for contact on the document. You (The Lantern) used it.

We have no intention, nor have we ever intended, in using this form for anything more than support for the nomination we intend to process on Mr. Conely's behalf.  We hope that clears this up and everyone can move on.

~~~~~Hope that clears that up.~~~~~
Not everything is intended for evil. The sky is not always falling. Sometimes faith in humanity and good intentions make life a little brighter.
We at the Lantern support this nomination. Please contact us if you'd like to support Mr. Conley's nomination by the parents of Brighton Community Cares.
