In February we brought to light multiple safety issues within Hartland schools.
In 2020 we were made aware of the case of Tatayana Vanderlaan. Because the case was sealed, FOIA's could not be filled and rumors were the only source of information, we refrained from reporting on it.
Now that it is out, we'd like to ask a few questions:
*Why would our superintendent and staff ignore hostile bullying behavior?
This is a trend as we've pointed out in past issues in the Lantern.
*Why would any student be allowed to harass and demean another student and not have the behavior addressed?
Safety issues in the Hartland school district has been a trend. Outside observers suspect that the lack of accountability displayed by adults could be the source of most of these issues.
Let's start with the most recent incident, shall we?
It is a fact that NO one in the FERPA investigation at the intermediate school has publicly apologized for spreading rumors and speculations resulting in a very public investigation on a school secretary. That's a staff saftey issue.
The superintendent has not made a public statement that the secretary was EXONERATED at the close of the investigation in Hartland school district. Slander and accusation were never addressed and the results were swept under the rug. Resulting in funds being spent on an investigation due to gossip and speculations made on social media. Those funds could have been applied to the safety of our children.
It is a fact the violence experienced in the case we shared in our story from February was NOT reported on by staff. It was reported by a 3rd party to authorities.
People were harmed. Children were traumatized and the response was "There is nothing we can do. We don't want to be sued."
These issues are a trend. These issues have caused harm. These issues are only a few that could be used as an example, because the School Board and Chuck Hughes (as well as EVERY other school in Livingston County) HIDE them instead of ADDRESSING them.
*Why is accountability so hard for this district's adults?
*Why is the constitutional right of each individual child not valued?
*Why are the foundation of the rules not enforced?
*Is avoiding potential lawsuits more important than the lives of each and every child in our schools?
*What are Chuck Hughes and the Hartland school board going to do NOW to protect the children of Hartland from the potential backlash and possible violence that could result from their past inaction and cover up of this story from 4 years ago?
*Will they bring in extra security or will they ignore the danger they have put the children of the Hartland school district in?
They called in extra security because of social media gossip from LivingstonIntegrity over a rumored podcast protest...
Do they even realize how derelict they have been in actually protecting the youth entrusted to them daily?
Can anyone answer these questions please?
